UPDATE – 2026: CE and UKCA marking for construction products
CE marking continues to be recognised for construction products placed on the market in Great Britain—England, Scotland and Wales—with no current expiry date. The UK Government has also committed to providing a minimum two-year transition period before making any future change to CE recognition.
The Construction Products (Amendment) Regulations 2025, in force since 8 January 2026, maintain this recognition as the EU transitions to Regulation (EU) 2024/3110. Products complying with the applicable EU requirements and legitimately bearing the CE marking can continue to enter the Great Britain market without additional UKCA marking or duplicated conformity assessment. UKCA remains available as an alternative. Products relying on a European Technical Assessment should, however, be considered individually.
In February 2026, the Government also published its Construction Products Reform White Paper. It proposes a General Safety Requirement for currently unregulated products, stronger oversight of testing and certification bodies and additional requirements for safety-critical products and systems. These measures are not yet in force; implementation of the General Safety Requirement is currently targeted for late 2027, subject to legislation.
Further information is available in the Government’s official guidance on CE and UKCA marking.
THE UKCA MARK
The UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) mark is the United Kingdom (UK) product mark that can be used for certain goods being placed on the market in Great Britain (GB - England, Wales and Scotland), following the UK’s exit from the European Union (EU). The UKCA Mark will in time replace the CE mark and covers most goods that previously required CE marking.
To use the UK mark, businesses must ensure their products for the GB market are tested and certified by a UK-approved body. This applies to products that comply with a designated standard or meet the requirements of a UK technical assessment issued for that product.
The UK Construction Products Regulations (CPR)
Since the UK left the EU, all existing harmonised European standards have become UK Designated Standards. If your product is not covered by a designated standard, it may be covered by a technical assessment document instead. UK Technical assessment bodies are now responsible for drawing up and, in agreement with the Secretary of State, adopting UK assessment documents.
