Intertek Edmonton expands global gas detection capabilities with testing to IEC 60079-29-1 and IEC 62990-1 standards

Uniquely positions Intertek to support manufacturers seeking access to international markets through a single, integrated testing and certification provider
Edmonton, Alberta: Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, has announced the expansion of testing capabilities at its Edmonton laboratory with the addition of IEC 60079-29-1 and IEC 62990-1 standards.
This addition strengthens Intertek’s support for manufacturers of gas detection equipment serving global industrial, energy, mining, hydrogen, and hazardous location markets. The Edmonton lab also serves as an ATEX notified body, providing Canadian manufacturers of equipment used in explosive atmospheres with a testing and certification partner to access the European market.
The new capabilities enable comprehensive performance evaluation of fixed, portable, and transportable gas detection equipment for both flammable and toxic gas applications. IEC 60079-29-1 specifies performance requirements and test methods for detectors used to detect and measure flammable gases and vapours in explosive atmospheres, while IEC 62990-1 establishes performance requirements for detectors used to measure toxic gases in workplace atmospheres and industrial environments. These internationally recognized IEC standards form the basis of North American requirements for gas detection equipment.
